Since 2010 when the financial crisis officially stroke Greece, I have been privately trying to assist students of all ages in need, with their learning needs without any financial reward, as I believe in every person’s right to learn and flourish. It has been a real pleasure, an honour and a privilege.
Between October 2002 and June 2003, being an undergraduate student at the School of English in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, I was given the opportunity to volunteer as an English instructor for an outreach programme, run by our school, focusing on hearing impaired students in need from various AUTH schools and department. I taught functional and intermediate English to two groups of adult hearing impaired students with great success. It was an illuminating, fulfilling and simply life-changing experience for me as I was challenged both as an aspiring young teacher and as an individual. Without any knowledge of sign language, I managed to develop new ways of communicating and helping others, especially my students reach their true potential.
