Worked as deckhand and now mate aboard SY Kaori for cruising with private owners. A sailing focused program that has greatly broadened my skill and knowledge of systems, crewing, and management of large vessels. Work has included standard deck maintenance as well as boat handling, watch keeping, and route planning.

  • Responsibilities include resource and team management during summer season as well as on water instruction and maintenance. Working season challenges are diverse, from mooring upkeep to sail repair, there are always new problems to tackle. Post season work includes more substantial maintenance of both power and sail vessels. All aspects of upkeep are required from fiberglass and gelcoat to rigging, painting, and 12v electrical systems.

  • Responsible for the taxi of a large variety of boats between docks and moorings. This position was invaluable in broadening boat handling skills on all types of boats including: 20-65' sail vessels, 20-55' Jet boats, 30-68' single and multi screw powerboats, 15-30' outboard powerboats.

  • Teaching sailing and sailboat racing to the next generation during summers. Primary focus was on coaching double handed dingy racing to rising sailors from 8-15 years old. Teaching keelboat sailing to younger sailors as well adults was a secondary responsibility. Strong dingy, keelboat, and powerboat handling technique combined with teaching and patience skills were the core of this position.
