My name is Mina Koutrouli, I am almost 24 years old and a highly enthusiastic final-year medical student, deeply passionate and committed to pursuing a career in pediatrics! My academic coursework and clinical experiences have equipped me with a solid foundation in medical knowledge and patient care. Currently, I am actively seeking opportunities to gain hands-on research experience and develop my skills in conducting medical research. I am eager to make meaningful contributions to innovative research projects aimed at advancing medical science and improving patient outcomes.
Our team established a participatory, peer-to-peer teaching "Child Abuse Workshop" in which I train pediatric students in the recognition and management of possible child abuse or neglect in daily clinical practice. The training takes place through simulation-based real clinical case scenarios and patient models. Since 2019 when we presented this Workshop to the Dean, it has been integrated into the mandatory curriculum of Athens Medical School.
After my success in Panhellenic Examinations and my admission to Athens Medical School, I was awarded by Eurobank, in the framework of the program: "The Great Moment for Education", as the student who succeeded the highest mark in the Panhellenic examinations of 2018 at my school.
I was one of the total 58 students, who were honored and awarded by the President of Hellenic Republic, Mr Prokopis Pavlopoulos, for succeeding the highest mark in the Panhellenic Examinations (2018) in each of the 58 prefectures in Greece
The conference took place in Athens, on December 2023
Since I am deeply passionate about volunteering and advocating for social causes, I have been actively demonstrating this commitment since 2019 with my involvement as one of the founding members of "Meds CAN" (Greek Medical Students and Junior Doctors against Child Abuse and Neglect), which is the 1st volunteer group of medical students and young doctors advocating against child abuse and neglect and is part of the "Child Safety Care Unit" of 2nd and 3rd Pediatric Clinic of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens. We are advocating, through research and educational activities. The most important educational activity is our participatory, peer-to-peer teaching "Child Abuse Workshop" in which we train pediatric students in the recognition and management of possible child abuse or neglect in daily clinical practice. The training takes place through simulation-based real clinical case scenarios and patient models. Since 2019 when we presented this Workshop to the Dean, it has been integrated into the mandatory curriculum of Athens Medical School. I serve as Team Lead Coordinator since September 2020.
I was a member of the Organizing Committee of the annual "Scientific Conference of Greek Medical Students” (28th SCHMS) which is organized only by students and took place in Athens in May 2022. My team created an innovative, educational, participatory and peer-to-peer teaching Escape Room, within the field of Forensic Medicine, simulating a real-life case of a woman's death. Participants were tasked with solving the escape room's puzzles to uncover the truth.
I was a member of the Organizing Committee of the annual Primary Healthcare Elective Placement Program “Iatriki Apovasis” which is organized by the Athens branch of EEFIE. Within the framework of this initiative, we deploy medical student volunteers to the outlying islands and border regions of Greece throughout the summer. This not only allows them to acquire clinical expertise but also enables them to actively contribute to the forefront of primary health care on a voluntary basis.
I was the Head Coordinator of a two-day event featuring both empowerment workshops for young women and awareness campaigns focused on gender inequalities and women in traditionally male-dominated medical fields. This conference was organized by Athens Department of EEFIE and took place in Athens on May 2023
On my own initiative, the first educational, participatory and simulation-based workshop was organized and conducted in November 2023, in association with the 1st Academic Department in Obstetrics and Gynecology of Athens Medical School. Now the workshop is integrated in the mandatory training curricula of the medical students in OB Gyn.
