Qualified teacher with a 28 year-experience teaching Modern Greek Language Courses to diplomats, company executives, students and adult learners in general. Emphasis is laid on orality rather than traditional grammar-based exercises. The main aim of lessons is to instill a comprehensive understanding of how language functions. Right from the first sessions students are motivated and encouraged to produce their own sentences and grasp the main grammar rules as part of expressing themselves in a good range of daily life topics. A regular course for Beginners (small group lessons) consists of two 50-minute sessions per week over a span of 5 months. In private lessons, the same syllabus can be covered in 3 months. At the end of such a course, students should expect to be able to introduce themselves and provide personal information, talk about their work or academic field, answer a simple telephone call, write informal messages and some formal emails, perform a simple transaction (bank, phone company, tax authorities etc), write their CV and a cover letter in Greek and know some key phrases for emergency situations. Grammar wise, they will have been taught the Present, Future and Simple Past of Verbs, the different cases of nouns and adjectives, pronouns as well as all the essential syntax rules.
